This is the 1834 Thomson Camel in black leather with antique hardware. This beautifully constructed tartan has an understated elegance to it, compared to some of the busier plaids.

Thomson or Thompson derives from MacTavish. In fear of Jacobite chiefs in the 1700s, MacTavish's used the name Thom(p)son, for it was not healthy to be known as a "Mac", which is too obviously a Highland name. As for the Thomson tartan, this is wrapped up in more recent history. Registered only 40 years ago, the Thomson tartans were specifically created for Lord Thomson of Fleet. The Thomson Camel tartan is often likened to the Burberry tartan.
