The 1834 Royal Stewart
The 1834 Royal Stewart
The 1834 Royal Stewart by NIXEY; for the heritage lover with a rebellious streak. Universally recognised, the Royal Stewart tartan is associated with the royal House of Stewart and is the personal tartan of Queen Elizabeth II. Reappropriated in 70s Britain in punk fashion, it has had a long and relevant history with the British Isles.
Handmade near the Highlands, the 1834 Royal Stewart unites the skill of two Scottish artisan workshops. The plaid is woven from natural wool fibres by a family company with a 200 year old history. Passed on to a traditional sporran makers workshop, the fabric is then handcrafted with black leather to create each bag. The heavyset, high quality fittings in bright polished nickel enhance the distinctive style of the 1834 Royal Stewart.

Borne out of necessity in the 12th century, Highland warriors were the first to wear the leather sporran, over a kilt - a single piece of tartan cloth requiring no tailoring, and therefore no pockets. This modern reinterpretation by NIXEY stays true to the original design essence, yet adds an element of surprise as each 1834 seamlessly interchanges from shoulder bag to waist bag, reflecting the versatility of contemporary life. The 1834 gives you the freedom to wear your own way!
