Welcoming the new Ailsa bag to the NIXEY collection! It's quietly elegant and simple design, makes the Ailsa a wardrobe classic, perfect for everyday wear.
Beautifully crafted & hard-wearing, NIXEY bags are designed for the outdoors. The Ailsa bag is no exception. It takes its name from Ailsa Craig, an oval-shaped island 16 km west of mainland Scotland. Translated into "fairy rock", Ailsa Craig boosts a fairytale history of castles, pirates and smugglers. Today, although it is uninhabited by humans, it is sanctuary for huge numbers of birds.

At NIXEY, we love putting a modern twist on traditional shapes & our Ailsa is a true testament to that.
The design of this curvaceous little gem is a modern reinterpretation of a centuries-old design. The Ailsa pays homage to NIXEY's Scottish heritage, deriving its shape from the Scottish dress sporran.

This antique dress sporran (pictured) is from the Glasgow Museum's collection, dating back to the mid-18th century & found near Inverness. Crafted four centuries before our Ailsa bag, but probably only one hundred miles up the road by a traditional Scottish craftsperson, the similarities extend beyond just the shape.
