New 1834 Tweed & Tartans have LANDED!

Nixey_1834

Uniting the skill of two Scottish artisans, the Tweed & Tartans of the new 1834s are woven from natural wool fibres by a family company with a 200 year history. Traditional sporran makers then cut & craft the fabric with leather to create each bag.

Fusing time-honoured craftsmanship & contemporary design, the 1834 celebrates the very best of British.

Tartan In Time

Tartan has had an illustrious connection with Scotland & the British Isles for centuries.  Globally revered, this renowned fabric now has universal reach.  Here's some fascinating facts to prove it:

  • Elvis Presley had THREE tartans designed in his name.
  •  Astronaut Alan Bean, took a piece of family tartan to the moon on the 1969 Apollo 12 mission.
  • As the biggest importer of Outer Hebridean Tweed, Japan has also had several tartans dedicated to it. Hello Kitty even has her very own tartan!

A National & International Treasure.

Field of Dreams

With Festival Season in full swing, the 1834 is the perfect companion for hazy summer days spent in the great outdoors.

This modern reinterpretation of the leather sporran by NIXEY stays true to the traditional Celtic design essence.

Born out of necessity in the 12th century, Highland warriors were the first to wear a sporran, over the kilt - a single piece of tartan cloth requiring no tailoring, and therefore no pockets.

Honouring this original functionality, each 1834 seamlessly transitions from a waist bag, perfect for country pursuits and summer festivals, to a daytime cross-body bag, to an evening shoulder handbag.

Designed with an expanding leather gusset - for all those festival necessities  - each bag is compact yet deceivingly spacious. Ideal for the British outdoors any additional essentials - like an umbrella or pac-a-mac - can be clipped to the bag using the classic trigger hooks on the back.
